At this KCC meeting, we learned how Nana "Mama" Yaa Asantewaa, an international storyteller, artist, workshop facilitator, the director and founder of the Louisville Arts Council made a wonderful career over her lifetime in the arts. She spoke about the struggles of running a non-profit organization dealing with the arts, that now networks artists from all over the world.

These are marketing skills that benefit all filmmakers, writers, producers, editors, and persons in the entertainment industry.
Sheryl Connelly on Wordpress.com

After talking with several small business owners and consultants, she discovered her complaints weren't unique. Everyone was saying the exact same thing. Savvy entrepreneurs knew they needed to use social media marketing tools, but managing their online community was taking valuable time away from what they should be doing; running their businesses.
"Yes, the tools are mostly free," explains Connelly. "But how many more patients or clients can you see in the 2-3 hours a day it takes to use the tools and interact with your social network? How much family time are you missing by spending late nights in front of a computer screen updating your status or announcing a sale to your fans? What is your time worth?"

Richard Meyer at sixteen decided what he wanted to be and that was to be a Renaissance Man. His concentrations have therefore been the following.
Numerous tours of university which granted a BA From Plattsburgh University in Plattsburgh, New York in Liberal Arts, three years study in public education at Mercy College in Westchester, New York and New Paltz College in New Paltz, New York. Recently he spent an additional three years studying art at the University of Southern Maine as an art major. Before spending his time in LA, CA where he was until two months ago, he studied for five years acting and movie making privately with Tom Kilroy, Minor Rootes, Valerie Landsburg and Drew Grindstaff in Maine. Richard also made two movies in Maine, one he scripted and one co-scripted with Drew Grindstaff. He produced and starred in these films as well.
The other part of his extensive education and experienced happened concurrently with his formal education. It involved Opera singing as a Heldentenor. He studied the Wagnerian repertory with Edwin Mc Arthur in New York as well as the heavier elements of the Verdi repertory. He worked one year with Richard Woitach at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Broadway studies were done with Roudolph Bennett, Broadway Director. His vocal studies were with Irene Jordan (10 years), Metropolitan Soprano and Arnold Caplan first violinist at the Met.
Richard never cared particularly about the credentials granted by others or their approval for that matter. He cared that he became expert and could do the job in whatever job he chose to do. With those he works with, this is the 'bottom line' as well. His success in the following fields proved this assertion.
Richard worked 20+ years at various jobs in the Auto (managerial and floor representative) and other sales industries, including Cable TV and Advertising to pursue his courses of study as these allowed him the time to do the rest. These came naturally and easily and did not require very much concentration on his part. He was called by his bosses 'a natural' with a closing ratio double his peers.
Among the other jobs Richard had were a public school teacher for four years, a chef for five years, a photographer, sculptor, painter, writer, and actor who performed in New York and California while earning a good living in the 'real world.'
Movie maker was always his first choice and all his other various occupations and studies enhanced and developed his talents to that end.
He has adapted a script for “Thunder In The Deep – the Movie” from the novel by Joe Buff and co-wrote the revisions with Joe as well. He is currently writing a Novel and various other scripts to keep 'his hand in.'
Richard envisioned and created the business model and success strategy for Thunder in the Deep the Movie, LLC based on his copious business experience. He refined and further crystallized these strategies with the cooperation of two producers, his team. He gathered his producers in this endeavor. Each brings the set of talents and alliances that have allowed the advanced development achieved of this major production in barely one year – and created, under Richard’s leadership, the 'lean mean fighting machine.'
Richard has concentrated all his universality of experience and studies on this current endeavor which has answered the question always presented to him... “What do you want to be when you grow up?” His answer to this question is, “What I am doing now. Making movies that are exciting, entertaining and intelligent, and then of course, acting in them.”

Harry has a method that he uses for his writing; a method that readily goes from outline to finished product, that he thinks is useful and he would like to share it with those who are interested.
Harry is a writer; an inventor; a carpenter; an artist; a craftsman, and a thinker who has the ability to put his thoughts to words on paper.
Thoughts. Ideas. Everyone has them. If you don’t document those thoughts, in an orderly and readable and reproducible and do-able manner, then those thoughts are stuck in your own mind, lost to others.
Is there a method to Harry’s madness? Find out for yourself on Thursday, 14 April 2011.

The pair went on to produce a 4 year cable series called " This Means You", numerous film & video projects as well as over 30-live shows and plays. It was during this time the pair met Tim Brown. Tim was a local actor and graphic artist. Tim began working with "Sight and Sound" in many capacities. Some of the shows they were involved in include: "The Trial", "Clive Barkers History of the Devil"( at The MeX), "Dr. Jeckyl & Mr. Hyde" (The MeX), "Midnight Special" (Actor's Theatre) and "Sam Sheppard's The God of Hell" (The Mex).

This version of Frankenstein is neither a strict adaptation of the original novel nor an update of the Universal Pictures version made famous by Boris Karloff, but does pay homage to both sources. It is a retelling of Shelley’s story that preserves many of its overlooked aspects combined with important scientific and Philosophical themes relevant in today’s world.
Set in the 1800s, it tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, scientist extraordinaire, who questions modern Science and dares to harness the power of creation in an obsessed search to end the suffering people experience at the loss of loved ones. Fueled by the loss of his own parents and aided by physician and Priest Father Patrick, Victor turns away from his remaining family and friends to madly search for the secret behind life and death. What is at first a noble cause quickly turns into a series of horrific events leading to nightmare and madness. It is a timeless story that becomes a cautionary tale of morality and mortality and poses questions that are as true today as they were two hundred years ago.
The script is a collaboration of many years’ work by three local writers who set out to write a version that is populated by real characters and true horror. John Hetzel, an alumnus of Providence, is the Director and Timothy Brown is Assistant Director. Both are excited to bring this production to the region and cannot wait to bring a new alternative to those who enjoy frightening theater. The cast and crew include many Providence graduates and promises Thrills and Chills as well as addressing thought provoking issues. For more info call 812-945-2538 ext. 328

In 2003 I entered a Lincoln look-a-like contest in Hodgenville and began reading about this great man. After an extensive study of his life, I decided to purchase a complete period-correct Abraham Lincoln costume and began portraying him.
In 2005, when I learned that my great, great, great, grandmother (Mary LaRue Enlow) was the midwife who helped deliver Abraham Lincoln, I knew this vocation was for me.
I can now portray Mr. Lincoln in the first person, from his humble roots in Kentucky, to growing up in Indiana, to becoming a self taught lawyer in Illinois, to becoming our sixteenth President who preserved the Union and freed the slaves, to his untimely death at Fords Theater.
Two years ago, after much reading about Mary Todd Lincoln and the integral role she played in history, my wife Mary began portraying the First Lady with me. We tell our story of just how much our lives initially contrasted. We include our childhood years, how we met, and events leading up to that new birth of freedom speech, The Gettysburg Address.
Give us a call – we’ll give you some entertaining and inspiring history!

Brennan has been involved in motion pictures, Television, and media dating back to the early 1970s when he was first involved in shows produced at WLKY TV-Channel 32 (formerly an ABC affiliate) in Louisville, Kentucky. Brennan was first paid as a videographer as far back as 1986. He is also a paid actor in the new full-feature Walt Disney film "Secretariat" that was released nationwide, in theaters near you, in October 2010.
BEFORE YOU PLAY THE PREVIEW, IF YOU LOOK TOWARD THE BACK OF THIS IMAGE, BRENNAN IS STANDING ABOUT THREE FEET TO THE RIGHT OF THE BRIGHT LIGHT AND WEARING A DARK SUIT WITH A BLUE SHIRT AND A BLACK HAT. (ALMOST DEAD CENTER OF THE PHOTO)
NEWS: KCC's very own, Actor: Brennan James Callan is in Walt Disney's film which was released in October 2010. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKmuvjL2cVw
1:30/2:31 (Look for him toward the back of the room, two people to the right of the spot light--in a dark suit with a light blue shirt and dark blue tie and a Fedora hat).
2:23/2:31 (Look for him toward the right side of the press box--, two people are just below his face--in a dark suit with a light blue shirt and dark blue tie and no Fedora hat this time).
DON'T BLINK if you want to see Brennan! In fact, the editing is so swift that anyone wanting to see Brennan in the preview will have to navigate frame by frame to see him and know where he is in the shot...but he is there! In the motion picture, Brnnan shows up in several shots.
Brennan appears on the film as both an "Upper Class Gentleman" (appears in the Grandstands and in the Paddock areas of Churchill Downs) and as a "Sports Writer/Photographer" (appears in the tunnel as the horses emerge onto the race track at Churchill Downs, and Brennan is the absolute last person (photographer) seen as the "Secretariat" horse & jockey enter the track and the steady-cam follows the horse onto the track. Four all four days of the shoot at Churchill Downs, Brennan was in the same suit, so you will recognize him. Everyone had to wear the same cloths due to continuity.
As multiple angles were shot of each scene, Brennan appears in multiple angles of these shots.
This film was shot at Churchill Downs, in Louisville, Kentucky, USA (home of the Kentucky Derby); in Keeneland Race Track--in Lexington, Kentucky, USA, and then other locations in Louisiana as well as non-race track locations in those cities. See the film for a full list of credits.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD PRESENTATION FOR WILLIAM "Bill" Clay Cothron":
Bill Cothron is the third recipient of the Kentuckiana Cinematography Club (KCC) Lifetime Achievement Award and the presentation of the award will take place at this meeting and with his family there to receive the award for Bill.
OBITUARY:
COTHRON, WILLIAM CLAY "BILL," 62, was called Home unexpectedly to the arms of his Heavenly Father on Saturday, 27 March 2010.
He was the son of Pauline and the late Clay Cothron.
Upon graduation from Bellarmine College, he taught middle school. Bill went on to work for Ford Motor Company, completing 30 years of service.
After retiring, Bill was able to fulfill his life-long ambition to become an independent filmmaker. With his friend, James Wolford Hardin, a partnership called True Dreams Productions was formed.
The multi-talented Bill wrote the scripts, directed and acted in two full-length movies, "Finale: The Last Case" and "Finale II: Deader than Dead." The achievement of his dreams came when his film "Fangs For the Memories" won Best Short Film in the 2006 Fright Fest Film Competition.
Bill had the gift of bringing out the best in local actors. He was respected and admired by everyone who worked with him.
William was also remarkably adept in magic. He was a member of the Louisville Magic Club, Society of American Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. For years, Bill and his oldest son, Kent, performed magic shows. His audiences were amazed as Bill produced doves and rabbits, did unusual and intricate card tricks and made coins vanish.
Somehow, Bill found the time to volunteer two days a week at Schaffner Traditional Elementary School, working with six-year-olds who loved him.
William was a devout Christian and a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ.
Besides being a loving husband, loyal friend, affectionate father and true family man, Bill's compassion extended to animals. He had a collection of 10 pets, including cats, dogs and a Nigerian pygmy goat named Griffin.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Barbra; his three awesome and gifted children, Kent, Camille and Blake, all in California; his kind mother, Pauline; his favorite sister-in-law, Anne Luttrell; and his beloved dachshund, Auggy.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Bill's favorite charities, the Animal Care Society, 12207 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40245 or the American Family Association of Kentucky, P.O. Box 8089, Louisville, KY 40257.
Our (fortieth) meeting was: Monday 28 March 2010, 1830 EST (6:30 p.m.) at the Molly Mallone's Irish Pub and Restaurant, 933 Baxter Ave Louisville, KY 40204. http://www.mollymalonesirishpub.com/highlands/
Kentuckiana Cinematography Club (KCC) 29 March 2010 Meeting at Molly Malone's Irish Pub and Restaurant 933 Baxter Avenue, Louisville, KY. This was our normal KCC meeting and the guest speaker was Vin Morreale (Writer, Producer, Director, Actor, Casting Director, Acting Instructor).
Two days before this meeting, KCC member, William "Bill" Clay Cothron passed away on 27 March 2010. Bill was the second KCC member to pass away since the club began in 2005. The first member was Ryan Christopher Mouritsen (Actor, Writer, Producer) who died on 27 February 2009, as a result of an ultralight plane crash the day before.
On 28 September 2009, at Bowman Field (KLOU), Aviation Memorial and awarding of the KCC Lifetime Achievement Award for Ryan took place and Bill Cothron attended that ceremony.
Bill was awarded the same honor, the KCC Lifetime Achievement Award, at our April 2010 meeting, for his contributions to the film and entertainment community.
An empty chair was left in honor of Bill and Ryan, who were both loved club members. Their photographs with candles and reserved signs marked their places.
In the future KCC meetings, we will have the photos for Bill and Ryan along with us so they will never be forgotten.
As is a tradition at our meetings, we began with the self-introductions, but this time, the members conveyed their warm memories about William "Bill" Clay Cothron as this was helpful for everyone to commiserate over their feelings of loss over Bill's untimely death due to a heart attack. He had suffered with multiple sclerosis (MS) since 2004.
Bill's mother Mrs. Pauline Cothron; Barbara Cothron, his wife; and Anne Luttrell, his sister-in-law; were all in attendance at the meeting too. James Wolford Hardin, (actor, writer, producer, co-founder of True Dreams Productions (along with Bill Cothron) was present as well as Evan Peters, the cinematographer for True Dreams Production. Virginia Rae Callan (Executive Producer, Actress), Dr. Herman Wyssbrod (Actor, Grip, Production Assistant), and Judy Crippin (Actress) were in attendance. Many other friends of Bill's friends and colleagues attended the meeting too.

Brian's interest in film sound and music goes back to childhood, a dream of being the "sound effects man". A university program later on gave him that chance: a project on the use of music in silent films and its relationship to popular American music allowed Brian to study, and experiment with, concepts of sound as it relates to visual images. Brian used period writings, current research, and the help of scholars like Rick Altman whose work Silent Film Sound revolutionized how silent film sound was considered, resulting in a both scholarly writings and programs of film music. Brian has collaborated on film music and shows with Bob DeFlores, a film archivist and historian who works with the UCLA Film Archives, filmmaker Ken Burns, Kino International and the Smithsonian.
Louisville native Brian Barnes has an incredibly diverse musical biography spanning more than 30 years: world tours as a Bluegrass musician; Country Music concerts and festivals in Eastern Europe; French swing at Lincoln Center; American Swing and Latin music in Vienna. As a core musician on NPR's A Prairie Home Companion in the 1980s he worked with performers such as Garrison Keillor, Minnie Pearl, Chet Atkins and "My Rose of Old Kentucky" - Rose Maddox. As a musician and music director for several dance companies he has toured the U.S. and Europe performing traditional American as well as world music. As a recording artist Brian appears on projects equally as varied, is a producer, and is composer/music director for independent film projects plus his own film music company, MovieVaudeville.
http://www.movievaudeville.com/
MovieVaudeville is about live music and vintage film.
We select classics of early cinema, craft new music for the films, and present them in live performance.
Early film makers were innovative, and we feel it is important to continue in that spirit. Each film is approached uniquely, considering the content/time period/.feel. of the film. Many, many hours are devoted to either selecting existing music or creating something new, then timing, placing and practicing. Depending on the film, the music might at any point be classical piano, slide blues guitar, early music counter-tenor, synthesized midi, electronica/loops/theremin/sound effects, or some spontaneously improvised mix of any of the above. Additional musicians are utilized for some films to enhance the musical experience. It is not only one instrument - one voice - from beginning to end.
Who we are:
Brian Barnes is the creator of MovieVaudeville. Brian has traveled internationally over the course of 30 years performing with a number of diverse ensembles in a number of styles. This experience combined with his university studies focused on music and popular culture is the prime reason MovieVaudeville scores are so unique. Brian is the music director for all the scores, and accompanies the films on keyboard, guitar, mandolin, banjo, melodeon, and handles the computer, sound effects, and theremin.
Some films are accompanied by a single musician, others are ensemble efforts. Other musicians include:
Jacquelin Smallman. A classically trained pianist, Jacquelin's extensive knowledge of the piano repertoire is crucial to the creation of many of our scores, and her tremendous skill as a player transforms our live performances into high art.
David Echelard. David is a conservatory trained Early Music counter tenor, as well as electronic music composer, keyboard/accordion/hurdy-gurdy player. His incredible creativity in composing and arranging set our scores apart from all others.
MovieVaudeville is based in Louisville, Kentucky, and will perform film/music programs in locations around the country. We provide the films on DVD, can perform indoors or outdoors, and can provide all projection and sound equipment for either if necessary.
If you are interested in bringing MovieVaudeville to your venue, please contact us. For information about films, rates, available dates, etc, please email to: info@movievaudeville.com
MovieVaudeville welcomes requests for commissioned film music. Please inquire at the email address listed above.

Brian Barnes has a musical biography spanning more than 30 years, and which is perhaps one of the most diverse of any musician's. Today, it's simpler to say that Brian focuses on his love of Jazz guitar and vocals, and performing this great music in the U.S., France, Sweden, and Finland. Still, with his unusual background he is still in demand for projects of all types.
Why not?
He has toured Japan, Holland, Germany, Austria and Switzerland (as well as the U.S. and Canada) as a top Bluegrass
musician; performed Country Music at concerts and festivals in eastern Europe; traditional Irish in America and Ireland;
blues in Hungary; French music at Lincoln Center; American Swing and Latin music in Vienna. As a core musician on a
nationally broadcast radio program, he worked with famous performers such as Garrison Keillor, Minnie Pearl, Rose Maddox
and Johnny Gimbel. As a musician and orchestra director for the nationally renowned Ethnic Dance Theater, he performed
Russian, Serbian, Croatian and Bulgarian Music on traditional instruments. He's studied Balalaika with a Russian
priest, percussion with drummers from the Ossetian and Uzbeki state orchestras, jazz guitar with a Berkley grad,

For the next three years, he traveled up and down the hollers of the Appalachian mountains knocking on doors and learning the music of the mountain people. Michael experienced hundreds of front porch hootenannies throughout Appalachia where folks would pull out their banjos and fiddles, sit on their front porches with him and play the old songs that their grandparents taught them. Soon, he began performing "Earth Concerts" at colleges, schools and fairs. He performed two thousand Earth Concerts, plus benefits for the homeless, farm families, and shelters helping battered women and children. In all, he sang to over two million people in one four-year stretch. Billboard Magazine headlined him as an "UnSung Hero." He has been featured on CNN, TNN, CMT, AP, Headline News, NPR, Bravo and the BBC.

WoodSongs
Old-Time Radio Hour (Produced in Lexington, KY, but heard all over the world on public radio and seen on Public TV.
The television version of the show is available to all PBS TV stations nationwide. Not bad for a show that's produced by a volunteer staff and features artists who perform for free. That much, at least, hasn't changed since Johnathon started "WoodSongs" as a showcase for grass-roots musicians who, like him, make their living on a scale much smaller than that of bands filling stadiums.
"We started this with the goal that this could be a 'Prairie Home Companion,' 'Mountain Stage' or 'Austin City Limits' for the grass-roots music world," said Johnathon. "Wood-Songs' is not meant for the caliber of artist that could fill a 1,000-seat hall, but I do that kind of artist occasionally because it validates the stage for other artists." You can trace "WoodSongs" all the way back to when he was a boy in New York.
"When I was a teenager I saw Pete Seeger play, and he sang songs about the earth and the environment, traveling up and down the Hudson river, trying to make his hometown river clean. He was interested in his hometown, and that was my introduction to what music could be like. We should be more interested in the heart than the chart." By the time he settled in Kentucky, he had drawn international attention from the press and had performed for more than 2 million people. You might wonder how he makes time for "WoodSongs," but the show is so finely tuned that it takes little time. More than 30 volunteers work onthe show each week.
"'WoodSongs' is the unruly, ornery, difficult, foul-tempered child that did good," Johnathon said, laughing. "It's that annoying cousin that kept showing up and ended up being the hero. It's very rewarding, to say the least."
Michael Johnathon is the writer and producer of Walden: The Ballad of of Thoreau play. It's a documentary film about Thoreau, the main body of the work is the actual high-def production of the Walden play at the Opera House in Lexington. It was filmed by the students at Asbury College. This film will air on Kentucky Educational TV (KET) in April 2009. Check your local listings for times.
Thoreau is considered America's original "tree hugger" and forefather of our environmental movement. He was a gentle naturalist, earth lover, author, pencil-maker ... and is the most quoted American writer in history. Yet, when he passed, he was better known for having helped market the pencil than for a single word he wrote with it.
"In an age of global warming, bio-fuels, hybrid cars and oil wars," says Johnathon from his farmhouse home in Kentucky, "the play can introduce people to Thoreau as well as earth concerns in their own home towns at a time when, frankly, they need it." Over 7,200 schools, theaters and other venues from far away as South Korea, Egypt, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Belgium, Australia, Ireland, Argentina, Syria, England, Germany, Israel, Canada and the across the USA have performed the play. The play has also been produced as a drama in the style of the 1940's and 50's radio plays for broadcast on 600 radio stations, internet broadcasters and XM Satellite Radio. The Walden play is provided free to schools, theaters and public radio and supported by the Earth Day Network, National Environmental Education Week, American Forests, Kentucky Earth Day and EarthCARE Canada.

Documenntary about Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour
Ryan was born 5 June 1975, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Robert K. and Laurel G. Mouritsen. Ryan grew up and lived in Utah, until moving to Los Angeles in 1998 to pursue his dreams. He inspired and lifted all who came in contact with him. Ryan always saw the positive side of every situation and added excitement, enthusiasm and humor to our lives.
During Ryan's lifetime, he had many goals. One was to move to California on his own to pursue a career in acting. While involved in acting, he also developed a passion and talent for script writing in the television and film industry. He wrote and home-produced some of his own works, including movies which starred each member of his family. Another goal was to become a pilot and then a certified flight instructor. Ryan always accomplished his goals with flying colors! He especially loved spending time with his best friends - his dad and his brother Rob - traveling, going to air shows, and playing Risk and Chess with them. Ryan also greatly enjoyed spending time with his friends in California going on exciting outings and adventures.
Ryan exemplified kindness, love and honesty every day of his life. A day didn't pass without Ryan calling or emailing his family members just to chit-chat, check up on them, or share some exciting news about his life. Never did he finish a phone call without saying "I love you!" He always showed his affection with hugs and kisses and major tight squeezes.
We love you so very much, Ryan, and your memory will always be with us. You touched us all on so many levels; you opened our minds to so many things; and you taught us how to love and respect everyone regardless of our differences. We are going to miss you more than we could ever put into words. We know we will see you again, and that you are now touching those on the other side. Keep on flying high!
Ryan is survived by his parents, Robert K. and Laurel Mouritsen; his brother, Rob V. (Mariela) Mouritsen; his sisters, Amy (Austin) Day and Mandi (Tim) Bowen; three nieces and five nephews, whom he adored. Preceded in death by his nephew (Camden Bowen) and by his grandparents.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, 7 March 2009, at 12:00 noon (MST) at the Telford Way Chapel, 1834 East Creek Road (7995 South), Sandy, Utah. Jim and his fellow Cheapskate Car Rental clerks are oblivious to the changes going on right outside their door until it literally gets right in their faces. Jim struggles with disgruntled customers, hordes of cannibals, the barely legal April, his certifiable ex-girlfriend Vix (the sexy "Terminatrix"), reconciling issues with his brother, an aversion to guns, and the "pants thing."
Can Jim pull it together and rally Louisville's remaining bike gangs and defeat the infected hordes? Maybe with the help of a 1000 round per minute machine gun.
Dead Moon Rising features an ensemble cast of 14,600 choppers, twelve hundred extras, and contains the "World's Largest Zombie Scene."
Girls, ghouls, and guns, what else do you need for a good time?

I know from talking with many of my counterparts in the industry that have hired MBM, satisfied is an inadequate adjective for describing their perspective of their work. Go to your thesaurus, look for synonyms for thrilled or ecstatic, and you will be closer to the mark."
MBM has a proven track record for producing films that achieve clients. goals- whether they involve education, persuasion, or development - while, at the same time, working within parameters of budget and format. A key reason for this effectiveness is MBM.s creative process, which gives professional and careful attention to each aspect of the project.
Our process begins with a comprehensive research and discovery phase in order to capture the purpose, nature, intent, essence and desired effect of the documentary project. This foundation enables MBM to translate client goals into a creative concept recommended to fit the intended audience. Once the concept is approved, our veteran writers compose a well-crafted message.

Our second speaker was Chris Stroble http://www.nku.edu/~strobelc/ from Northern Kentucky University (NKU) to discuss their degree program. Mr. Strobel is a Coordinator and Assistant Professor for the Electronic Media & Broadcasting Department of Communication: College of Informatics. Getting to learn what new college degrees can helped our members to professionalize our skills was greatly important for everyone to migrate from making short films for free to being able to earn a good living from a new career. The acquisition of a sound education is paramount to your success, be sure to attend his presentation.
I was the Production Manager for WTWO-TV, the NBC affiliate in Terre Haute, IN upon graduation from Indiana State University. I had directed the weekend newscasts and shot and edited corporate videos and commercials for the station before running the department from 1990-94. While there I also created an educational children's show (Stepping Stones) that aired on Saturday mornings and actually won our time slot against national cartoon programming, but the best thing about being in the 'Haute - I met my wife at the MDA Telethon when I produced the show and she ran the local MDA.
After TV-2 I went back to school to earn my MA in Film and Video from The American University in Washington, DC. An excellent place. Cannot recommend the university, program or city highly enough. I won a few awards for the films that I made, including for "Believe," my thesis film. While finishing up film school I purchased a Media 100 system and started "Good Morning Egg Productions," my film and video company. My wife and I moved back to the midwest, choosing Cincinnati as our new home, and GME flourished here for five years and I worked with big (P&G, AOL) and small companies while keeping my hand in film work - I've edited five feature films for directors other than myself. I have shuttered the decidedly for-profit GME in favor of a new venture (Red Thread Media) that focuses upon creating media with a message.
Directing the Forgetting Project in 2000 I started teaching adjunct for the Audio/Video Production program at Southern Ohio College (now Brown Mackie College) in Cincinnati. Doug Yeager, the current Department Chair there, was on staff and had worked with me on a couple professional movie projects. I liked teaching (it's why went back to film school) and when the Department Chair position opened up I was fortunate enough to get the job. A year later, I was running the AVP, Accounting, Business and CAD programs for SOC - but not teaching any more. An adjunct I had hired told NKU about me (she was a recent NKU graduate) and a position that was open seemed to fit my talents and interests. I moved across the river in 2002 and have loved it ever since. I progressed from being a 'mere' assistant professor to officially coordinating what was then the Radio/Television program in 2005. In fall of 2007 we restructured the program to more accurately reflect the nature of media creation today and renamed ourselves Electronic Media & Broadcasting.
The biggest project I've headed up is the Forgetting Project - a narrative/documentary piece on how Alzheimer's Disease affects the family. That is currently in narrative post and documentary production, with a completion goal of August 2007. I am also one of the founders of the College Weekend Movie Festival - a wild 5 day moviemaking competition between the area media programs. Last year one of our NKU groups won the CWMF - that movie is featured on the new "official" EMB website: http://emb.nku.edu/.
